SAP BI IP: FAQs about arcplan / Longview Analytics and SAP BI Integrated Planning
Q: Which version of SAP NetWeaver BI Integrated Planning is required by the SAP BI IP interface?
A: The arcplan / Longview Analytics SAP BI IP interface requires at least version 7.3 of SAP NetWeaver BI Integrated Planning.
Q: Why is SAP BI IP not listed in the interface list in the database window of the Application Designer when I create a new connection file?
A: The SAP BI IP interface needs a SAP BW BAPI connection because it adds BI IP specific functions and object properties to the SAP BW BAPI interface. It does not require a separate connection file.
Please note: For SAP BI IP you need a special license key. Please check the license information dialog for "SAP BI Integrated Planning". If this entry is missing, your license key is not valid for SAP BI IP.
Q: Executing the SAPBIIPINIT function throws the following error message "RFC_UNKNOWN_ERROR() Initialization of sapnwrfc.dll failed"
A: For accessing SAP BI IP arcplan / Longview Analytics provides a set of functions that require an additional SAP Netweaver RFC-library (sapnwrfc.dll) besides the classic RFC-library (librfcu32.dll). The sapnwrfc.dll and a set of additional libraries required by the sapnwrfc.dll are part of the SAP Netweaver RFC SDK. SAP note 1025361 provides more detailed information concerning the library sapnwrfc.dll and additional libraries required. This note also explains where you can download the SAP Netweaver RFC SDK from the SAP Software Download Center (http://service.sap.com/swdc).
Copy the following Dlls to the "Windows\system32" folder (or" Windows\SysWOW64" depending on the architecture of your system)

Q: Executing the SAPBIIPINIT function has no effect.
A: For SAP BI IP you need a special license key. Please check the license information dialog for "SAP BI Integrated Planning". If this entry is missing, your license key is not valid for SAP BI IP.
Q: After the SAPBIIPINIT function has been executed, the table object does not show any BI IP values.
A: Please open the "Database specific object properties" dialog for the table object meant to show BI IP values and check the settings on the "Alias" tab. "Output" has to be set to either "BI IP Data" or "BI IP Input Allowed".
Please note: Removing connection arrows from the table object may switch the "Output" menu back to "no alias".
Q: After the SAPBIIPINIT function has been executed, the table object is empty.
A: At least arcplan version 7.1.0 is required, if compound characteristics are used in the query.
Also please check the query design in BEX Query Designer:
- The option "Start Query in Change Mode" has to be checked on the "Planning" tab of the "Properties" pane.
- The option "Allow External Access to this Query" has to be set on the "Advanced" tab of the "Properties" pane.
- The option "Display as Hierarchy" has to be turned off for the "Rows (Area)" and "Columns (Area)" in the Properties of the "SHEET (page)".
- Only key figures are allowed as columns on the "Rows/Columns" pane.
- Check the technical name of the key figure. It may be either empty or identical to the technical name that has been automatically defined during query generation.
- Verify that the characteristics which are used on rows or columns in arcplan / Longview Analytics are defined as "rows" on the "Rows/Columns" pane.
- Check the hierarchy settings of the characteristics. If the option "Activate Hierarchy Display" is checked, you also have to set the hierarchy parameter "Expand to Level" to the last level used in the report.
- If compound characteristics are used in the query
Q: The values for all the sum nodes in the hierarchy are missing.
A: Open the query in BEX Query Designer and check the hierarchy settings of the characteristics. If the option "Activate Hierarchy Display" is checked, you also have to set the hierarchy parameter "Expand to Level" to the last level used in the arcplan / Longview Analytics report.
Q: When I enter values into a table cell my input is set back to the original value.
A: Please check that you are logged into BI IP (by executing the SAPBIIPINIT function) and that write back is enabled for the cell. You can check this in the Application Designer by using the SAPBIIPWRITEBACKALLOWED function. With this function the input status of the key figures queried are retrieved instead of the key figure values.
It is best practice to check the original "BI IP Data" table with the SAPBIIPWRITEBACKALLOWED function to always be informed about the input status of the cell.
Q: How can I add values for new combinations of characteristics to a browse table when zero suppression is enabled?
A: You can use the IMPORT function. Specify the row object containing the header columns of the browse table as parameter 3 to define the structure of the data that is to be imported.
Q: Why has changing the value of a SAP variable no effect?
A: You cannot change the variable during a planning session. Please call LOGOFF, then change the variable and start a new planning session by executing the SAPBIIPINIT function again.
Q: Why are some of the SAP variables not visible in the Designer database window?
A: The arcplan / Longview Analytics database window uses a SAP BAPI function to retrieve information about variables from the SAP system. Please take a look at SAP Note 1007048 "MDX: Filtering of variables in the hierarchy display" for a solution.
Q: How can I optimize the Query design for arcplan / Longview Analytics?
A: Put the Key figures on Columns and set all characteristics that act as a filter in arcplan / Longview Analytics as free characteristics. Only the characteristics that are used as row or column references should be on the rows of the query.
Only activate the display of the text for the characteristic. The keys will always be in the data anyway. If key and text are set as the display option there will be redundant data in the result set thereby reducing performance.
